Food Allergies

Do you have gluten-free products?
Although many of our products do not contain added glutens, we unfortunately do not have gluten-free production facilities. This may pose some concern for those who are sensitive to gluten in their diet.

There are a number of sources of gluten: wheat, oats, barley, rye, spelt, kamut and Triticale. However, for the prepared meat products that we produce, wheat is the primary gluten source used. It will show up in the list of ingredients as:

  • Wheat Flour or Modified Wheat Flour
  • Toasted wheat crumbs, bread crumbs, cracker crumbs
  • Wheat Gluten, Wheat Germ
  • Wheat Starch
  • Origin of any other starches used should be specified. Example: modified corn starch, potato starch, tapioca starch
  • Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein - while this ingredient is rarely used in our prepared meat products, when used, the source of the vegetable is identified.
  • Usual sources of HVP are soy, corn and wheat in that order.
  • Flavours sometimes contain allergens but those will always be labelled in brackets
  • Wheat would never be “hidden” as a spice or seasoning on our products.

Do you have milk-free products?
Although many of our products do not contain milk, we unfortunately do not have milk–free production facilities. This may pose some concern for those highly allergic to milk.

Are milk products listed on the ingredients?
If present, milk products may appear as milk ingredients, milk, modified milk ingredients, or skim milk powder.

Are there hidden milk products?
No, all milk ingredients are clearly listed in the ingredient listing.

Do you have nut-free products?
We are pleased to say that most Schneiders' production facilities are nut-free. If present, nuts of any kind are clearly labeled on the package. Products made in facilities which are not nut-free carry a warning that trace amounts might be found. The warning appears in the ingredient list as, "traces of nuts may be present."

How can I tell if a product contains MSG?
It's sometimes difficult to recognize MSG because it can be labelled in different ways. MSG sources are listed as:

  • Monosodium Glutamate
  • Autolyzed Yeast
  • Hydrolyzed vegetable/plant proteins (source could be soy, wheat or corn)
  • Soy Sauce

Do you use MSG?
MSG, or Monosodium Glutamate, may be found not just as a labelled ingredient, but also as a ‘hidden’ ingredient in some other food ingredients, for example, in Soya sauce. Although products may not have Monosodium Glutamate declared on their label, these ‘hidden’ sources may be a concern to those with a sensitivity. In order to identify whether or not MSG might be present, refer to the list of ingredients.

If you have sensitivity to MSG, the following other ingredients, which contain ‘hidden’ sources of MSG, may be of concern to you: Soya sauce, Soya powder, Milk protein hydrolysate, Hydrolyzed yeast, Autolyzed yeast, Hydrolyzed vegetable protein, Hydrolyzed plant protein. Ingredients are listed in order according to their level of content. You may also wish to check with your health care provider for a more complete list of hidden MSG sources.

Are your “Oh Naturel” products suitable for vegans?
The "Oh Naturel" line is designed to be a meatless line, but is not strictly vegan (i.e. we do use egg and dairy ingredients in some products). Similarly, the flavours do not contain any meat derivatives, but there are a couple of flavours that do contain minor amounts of dairy ingredients to round out the flavour profile.
